⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Jun "J" Kanzaki
Age: 16
Canon: Bloody Monday
Canon Point: manga season 1, chapter 77 (after Otoya shoots him & he falls into the river)

Background: link

Personality: Jun, at the age of 16, had already earned himself a high position as third in command of his father’s terrorist cult, just below his younger sister, who is second in command. This, he managed because he is a very clever boy, and he is the strategist of the cult. However, he keeps many of his thoughts to himself. His plans tend to be complicated, and he has a tendency not to tell anyone the whole part of it. Only bits and pieces for the ones who needs to know that specific part or who are useful to tell. He doesn’t hesitate to incriminate totally innocent people, or to share information with the police if he finds he has something to gain from it.

But he could have been the heir to the cult, if only his father had thought he had the right personality fit for a cult leader. Kamishima says that if only Jun knew better how to give, and not only take, he would be more suitable for the position. Because Jun is selfish, and he is well aware of this. He is the kind of person who doesn’t want to do anything that’s not for his own gain, and who only wants to protect those that matter to him. That really doesn’t make him a suitible leader of a cult as big as Kamishima’s, since Kamishima is all about the members of the cult.

Not that Jun ever wanted to be leader of the cult; he never wanted to be a member at all, but he didn’t have a choice. He isn’t exactly fond of the other members of the cult, and loathes their devotion to the Blood of Kamishima. The only reason people respect Jun is because he is one of Kamishima’s children, and he wants to be respected for the person he is, and not for the person his father is. His father was always distant to his youngest son, and Jun never liked him. He dislikes the members of the cult because of their blind devotion, and only likes one member because he joined the cult because he wanted somewhere to make use of his hacking skills and not out of devotion for the founder of it. Since Michael isn’t a devotee, Jun feels it most comfortable to be around him, and Michael is the only one ever that Jun would tell almost his entire plans to, and the only one he shows his unguarded side to. Because Michael is different from everyone else, and he’s reliable and a bit of a whimp but intelligent and kind, and Jun likes those qualities. Even more so because Michael doesn’t look at him as his father’s son, but as if he’s his own person, and that is something that Jun really values a lot. It makes him feel loved, if only just a bit, and it makes him feel warm inside.

But to be honest, he doesn’t believe in people who say that they “trust” him. Most of all because he knows how hard it is to trust someone. He’ll easily use people in any way that he can, but trusting them is hard. When someone swears to the "blood of God" they swear to the blood relation which makes Jun an "incarnation" of Kamishima, in the follower's eyes. This has a tendency to upset Jun greatly, more than anything else, but he does his best to hide it. He might jerk to a stop and his eyes become empty and his smile hollow for a brief moment or two, but other than that, he keeps on pretending that it's nothing that matters to him. But he truly hates being relied on because he is his father's son, because the trust feels empty and hollow.

He has abandonment issues that not only stems from his father’s distant attitude, but also from the fact that he never knew his mother. When he was little, his mother, Kaname, left the cult, after she had run away from her father to join it. Jun was told that she had left because she didn’t want to be with him, and it hit hard, since he was just a little boy when he was told this by his older siblings. As a child, he easily believed it, and he doesn’t know the truth of it all yet, but it wasn’t Kaname’s choice to leave him behind. Still, this is what Jun thinks, and he feels sad and resentful about it. He also hates his maternal grandfather, who is a popular and powerful politican. He has a problem with thinking straight when it comes to his older maternal half brother Otoya, and is jealous over him having actually gotten to know their mother. He thinks that Kaname’s love in undevidedly centered at Otoya, which it really isn’t.

Jun has the bad habit of, when he gets irritated, bite his nails. He hates to play the obedient dog, son, brother and follower, but if it will get him what he wants, he will still do it. He can play polite and he can play normal. He’ll pretend that he does everything he does for the common cause of the cult, for the cult’s dream, but he won’t ever completely bend, even if he acts as if he does.

He has a bigger temper than he lets on, and easily snaps when no one is looking. If his plans goes askew, he can get really irritated. He hates being tricked, and he hates when people get in the way of his plans and he dislikes when people are hypocitical and roundabout. He also doesn’t like when things takes much longer time than it actually has to. But he prefers not to show this side in front of others, because it would be inconvenient, to say the least. He wants to keep a low profile, and not give away his true intentions. After all, aiming to destroy the people that brought you up is not the most grateful job ever. Besides, he finds being angry a way too unpleasant feeling, and wishes that people wouldn’t piss him off the way they sometimes do. It really grates on his nerves and makes him feel unable to think properly. At least he doesn’t turn violent, which he is glad for.

But when he's the most angry, he smiles, and it has the ability to scare people senseless. One of the times he showed such true anger was when Falcon made Otoya come to the place where Jun was going to fake his death. It was like an unwelcome present, because while he was interested in meeting Otoya, Jun never actually intended to meet him, and definitely not on that rooftop. But he makes use of the situation, tells Otoya the truth about them being brothers, and provokes him. It results in the unexpected action of Otoya shooting Jun, but despite Jun almost actually dying, it's nothing that he finds an inconvenience, because it just made his "death" all the more convincing. But he most certainly doesn't want to talk to Otoya, even on the phone. Not so soon, and it really takes him several years to gather the composition to actually talk to him normally. To be honest, he didn't expect Otoya to really shoot him, even if he provoked him. He was glad that he wore a bullet proof vest, because otherwise, he really would have been killed. He knows he was lucky that he only got away with few injuries, since he almost drowned in the river after being shot. At least it made his "death" seem realistic.

He needs to enjoy everything, and thinks of the terrorism as a game. This is because he knows that to manage from going weird in the head from all the killing, he needs an outlet. Most others find it in some other stress relief, but Jun looks at the world with eyes lacking a serious attitude. If he wants to meet someone, he thinks it’s perfectly alright to abduct them, as when he wanted to meet the Wizard class hacker Falcon. Though on the other hand, he’s not the type to go around announcing his being a terrorist, and he tends to play a pretty low-key game on the outside. He likes to have meaningless conversations, even if he knows there is no time for idle chatter.

He’s pretty good at reading people’s thoughts from their facial expressions, but he will only let this known if it’s convenient from him. Like if he wants to unnerve someone. He can pretend like he’s innocent to make people let down their guard. He can also act in completely unpredictable ways, like when he thanks Falcon for telling him how Third-i found them, instead of being concerned about being surrounded by SWAT. But he doesn’t set a meeting without making plans for any eventualities.

Jun might enjoy to tea, and then in particular he likes sweets as well as salty stuff, but he can get sick and feel like throwing up just by watching the gluttons he knows stuff their faces. He has a thing for eating things close to their expiration days, and likes junk food and doesn’t hesitate to buy stuff from a convenience store just to let them expire and then eat them. Who cares about things like calories if the food's tasty, right? Besides, he has the kind of body that stays slim even if he eats a lot.

He isn’t all that easily frightened, but when Jacob broke Michael’s computer over his knee as if it had been a piece of crispbread, he did get a bit spooked out. Jun himself isn’t all that physically strong, even if he’s agile and quick on his feet and knows how to defend himself well, so seeing something like that can make him think how easy it would be for Jacob to just break him like a twig if given reason.

Jun’s biggest dream and desire is freedom, and he doesn’t care what he has to do to reach that dream. He might murder, lie, and run people’s lives into misery, and he doesn’t care. To him, others are not important. Others except Michael, at least, because Michael is different from everyone else. Anyway, Jun wants a life of his own, not one dedicated to the cult, his father, and his sister. He wants happiness, and he wants an actual life where he can make his own choices.

Abilities: He's really clever, knows how to pick locks and is generally dexterous. He also is a great marksman, and knows how to fight hand-to-hand. He also is fluent in way too many languages and knows a lot of stuff in general.

Alignment: Piphron: Distrust is a familiar feeling to J, but he has a tandency to play trusting. Due to his dealings with Michael he's starting to slowly slowly learn to trust for real.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Sample: Even after a week, J is not used to the thought of emotion controlled magic. He's a realist to the bones, and things like magic is only something that exists in fiction. But he had seen the effects his own and other people's emotions had on the surroundings, so he couldn't just ignore it either. It made things a little bit complicated, forcibly altering his perspective of things.

His own beliefs aside, he had accepted a responsibility and he didn't have any reason to go behind the backs of the people employing him. This wasn't anything under the cult's control. He was grateful for that. He was grateful that no one from the cult was around. But on the other hand he did already miss Michael-kun. He had gotten far too used to having him around lately, even though they had not known each other for very long.

The pumpkin in his hands had started to gain a better color because of his relief over not having any of those fanatics around, but when his mind goes to Michael-kun he starts to think about what happened a week ago, back in Tokyo, when he fell into the river after getting shot. It was a bit distressing to think about, and the pumpkin starts to shrivel up.

Once he notices, he shakes his head in an attempt to clear it but since his mind goes to his father, it only gets worse, and he puts the pumpkin back down and crouches in front of it, hands on his knees. "No no, thinking about that won't help at all, good thoughts, happy thoughts..." His head droops. "Can't these stupid memories just leave me alone?" There are too many memories that he hates. He doesn't notice that the grass and other plants are starting to wilt and shrivel up as well. But he finally sighs heavily, and stands up. He notices the state of the closest area around him then. "Ah... I think I'll take a break.." He makes the mask of a smile fall into place, forces it to, and subdues the feelings as best he can. "Let's get something sweet, then!" He can't stick around the fields while he is in such a mood and he might end up causing even more damage if he doesn't get some change of pace and manage to fully control himself. "Maybe it's because I'm tired," he murmurs to himself as he left the field. "it's sometimes harder to control feelings when tired..." And he had slept unusually badly since arriving here, due to a storm of emotions that had attempted to swallow him whole. He was better now, at least somewhat, but he wasn't feeling perfectly tempered yet, either.
